Rankins and Vittikins Dragons

The Rankins Dragon (Pogona henrylawsonii) is the pocket-sized smaller cousin of the well known Bearded Dragon.

The Vittikins Dragon (Pogona henrylawsonii x Pogona vitticeps) is a naturally occurring and fertile cross between the Rankins and Bearded Dragons and inherits features of both – in appearance it looks like a Beardie but is the size of a Rankins Dragon.

Both these dragons have all the charm and attractions of ‘the Beardie’ but require a much smaller vivarium as adults and have a considerably smaller appetite (= cheaper food bill!) than their voracious cousin!

Typical adult size is around 30cm (body 13cm, tail 17cm) – compare this with an adult Beardie which may grow to 56cm (body 25cm, tail 31cm)!

You can think of either of these dragons as the ‘economy version’ of the Beardie so if you are limited for space for a vivarium or would like a dragon with considerably lower feeding, lighting and housing costs, either of these Dragons are well worth considering.
